From skidded turns to clean arcs
Most skiers skid their turns without knowing it. The skis slide sideways, speed builds up and the legs get tired. Carving is different: the ski runs on its edge, draws a clean line in the snow and does most of the work for you.
In this Carving Masterclass your instructor spends the whole session on that one skill. You work on stance, edge angle and pressure, then put it all together on runs that suit each step. It is the Tech Taster with the biggest impact on everyday skiing, because better edging and balance help on every slope.

What you will work on
- Stance and balance. A strong, centred position so you can stand on the outside ski and trust it.
- Edge angle. Tipping the skis with the ankles and knees instead of pushing the tails around.
- Pressure and timing. When to load the ski and when to release it, for a smooth flow from turn to turn.
- Turn shape. Short and long carved turns, and how to control speed without skidding.
Who is it for
Confident red-run skiers
This workshop is for skiers who are comfortable on red runs and want to ski with more precision, speed and less effort. You do not need to have tried carving before.
It suits adults who want to refresh their technique after years of skiing the same way, and teenagers who already ski fast and want to ski better. It is also the perfect first step before Intro to Ski Racing or Mogul Madness.
Book it as a private session for the most feedback per run, or as a small group with friends or family of a similar level.
Common mistakes we fix
What holds most skiers back
These are the habits we see every week on the slopes of Grimentz-Zinal. Your instructor will spot yours in the first few runs and give you simple drills to change them.
- Leaning back. Weight on the tails makes the skis skid and tires your legs. We bring you forward over the middle of the ski.
- Rotating the upper body. Turning with the shoulders pushes the tails out. We teach you to steer with the legs and keep a quiet upper body.
- Too much weight on the inside ski. We help you commit to the outside ski so the edge can grip.
- Skidding to control speed. We show you how turn shape, not skidding, keeps your speed under control.

Carving lessons FAQ
Do I need to be an advanced skier?
You should be comfortable skiing red runs in control. You do not need any experience in the discipline itself: that is what the session is for.
What skis do I need for carving?
Your normal piste skis are fine. Modern skis with some sidecut make carving easier, and a good service with sharp edges helps a lot. If you rent, ask for a piste or all-mountain ski in your size.
Can I learn to carve in one session?
You will feel the difference in one session and leave with drills to keep practising. Most skiers need a few days of practice for it to become automatic, so many book two or three sessions during their stay.
Private or small group?
Both. Book privately for the most feedback per run, or as a group of up to five people with a similar level. It is a great way for friends and families to try something new together.
How long is a session and when does it start?
Every Tech Taster is a 3-hour session. Morning sessions start by 10:30 and afternoon sessions between 13:00 and 13:30. Early starts give you the best snow and the quietest slopes.
Where do we meet?
We confirm the meeting point when you book. Usually we meet at the top of the Bendolla cable car in Grimentz, but we can also meet you in Zinal or elsewhere on the mountain. Your instructor contacts you the day before to confirm the time and place.
Where can I rent equipment?
Grimentz and Zinal both have several rental shops. We recommend Valsport in Grimentz for the quality of their equipment and their service. If you are not sure what to rent for your session, ask us when you book. Helmets are compulsory for children under 16 in our lessons.
