Mogul Madness
Calm, fluid skiing in the bumps
Moguls scare many good skiers. The skis get thrown around, the legs burn after a few turns and every bump feels like a surprise. With the right technique the same slope becomes one of the most fun runs on the mountain.
In Mogul Madness your instructor spends the whole session on bump skiing. We start on small, soft bumps to learn the movements, then move to steeper and longer lines when you are ready. You learn to absorb the bumps with your legs, keep your upper body calm and choose a line that suits your level.
Grimentz-Zinal is a great place for it. Between snowfalls, natural bumps build up on the steeper pitches of both sides of the ski area, so there is always a line to practise on. Read our guide to advanced mogul skiing techniques, or see all our Tech Tasters in Grimentz-Zinal.
What you will work on
- Absorption. Bending and extending the legs so the bumps are absorbed, not fought.
- Line choice. Troughs, shoulders or tops of the bumps, and which line suits your speed and level.
- Rhythm. A quick, steady turn rhythm that keeps you in control from top to bottom.
- Pole plant. Well-timed pole plants that keep your hands forward and your body facing downhill.

Who is it for
Red-run skiers ready for bumps
This workshop is for skiers who are confident on red runs and want to enjoy moguls instead of avoiding them. You do not need to ski bumps well already, only to be happy to try.
It suits adults who want to ski the whole mountain with confidence, and teenagers who love the challenge. It is also a great follow-up to the Carving Masterclass if you already carve well.
Book it privately for the most feedback per run, or as a small group of friends or family with a similar level.
Common mistakes we fix
What makes moguls hard
Most problems in the bumps come from a few simple habits. Your instructor will spot yours in the first runs and give you drills to change them.
- Stiff legs. Straight legs send you into the air on every bump. We teach active absorption.
- Leaning back. When the bumps get bigger, most skiers sit back. We keep you forward and centred.
- Traversing between turns. Long traverses build speed and lose rhythm. We link short turns down the fall line.
- Late pole plant. A late or missing pole plant breaks the rhythm. We time it with every turn.

Mogul lessons FAQ
Do I need to be an advanced skier?
You should be comfortable skiing red runs in control. You do not need any experience in the discipline itself: that is what the session is for.
Is mogul skiing hard on the knees?
Good technique makes moguls much easier on the body, because your legs absorb the bumps instead of taking the impact. We start on soft, small bumps and build up gradually. If you have knee problems, tell us when you book and we will adapt the session.
Where are the best moguls in Grimentz-Zinal?
It depends on the snow and the grooming of the day. Your instructor chooses the right bumps for your level, from gentle bump runs to steeper lines on both sides of the ski area.
Private or small group?
Both. Book privately for the most feedback per run, or as a group of up to five people with a similar level. It is a great way for friends and families to try something new together.
How long is a session and when does it start?
Every Tech Taster is a 3-hour session. Morning sessions start by 10:30 and afternoon sessions between 13:00 and 13:30. Early starts give you the best snow and the quietest slopes.
Where do we meet?
We confirm the meeting point when you book. Usually we meet at the top of the Bendolla cable car in Grimentz, but we can also meet you in Zinal or elsewhere on the mountain. Your instructor contacts you the day before to confirm the time and place.
Where can I rent equipment?
Grimentz and Zinal both have several rental shops. We recommend Valsport in Grimentz for the quality of their equipment and their service. If you are not sure what to rent for your session, ask us when you book. Helmets are compulsory for children under 16 in our lessons.
